did you know most games in upcoming releases will require Vista and only vista to operate the games? ACK I don know but thats kind of ripping people off if they are forced to buy a new operating sys.

I'm not going to upgrade. I have read too many horror stories about it... and besides, I hate Windows. Give me Linux and I'll be happy. ;P And rock, about that game thing. That's true, yes. But years down the line. I've read a few articles on it... game makers are going to keep making DX9 games for a while longer (2-3 years) before making DX10-exclusive titles. That doesn't mean you won't be able to play all games. Only games you can't play unless you have Vista are ones that REQUIRE DX10. Chances are the majority of games will still support DX9 and earlier for another 5 years or so. Heck, DX7 is still being supported with current games.

well as on earlier today, midnight to be exact, Dell has been selling PC's with Vista already in them, and the 07 office suite was also in the market But the retail of vista will be i think by the end of this month. I keep on saying i will upgrade but im some what scared, because of the "horror stories" as H5 said, but who knows...

well wait a while till DX10 and vista exclusive games come out, then you will want it a minor update on my upgrading status: failed! the iso i downloaded a while ago was "broken" i guess i could say. Another problem is that most vista downloads are either trojaned or messed up in some form of way. So I'm going to just wait for retail to come out in a few days and hope for a good download.

Well, by far the biggest horror story is the system requirements. To use the Aero theme (which is Vista's 'pretty graphics' theme) you need at least a gig of ram and a video card (not integrated) with at least 256mb video memory. PCWorld magazine recently did a test with Vista with all sorts of commonly used programs, and even with the Aero theme turned off, programs like Photoshop, Word, etc., performed anywhere between 5-20% slower than on XP - and that is WITH a gig of ram and a high end video card. Of course, you can turn off the Aero theme (so, logically, you can run Vista without an actual video card), but like I said above, there is still a performance drop. Unfortunately for many, this means a costly computer upgrade, or a whole new computer. Just because of the new operating system... tsk tsk. Also, after five years, XP will no longer be supported (as far as security updates, bug fixes, etc.), so you will have to upgrade eventually anyway unless you plan to use a different operating system in the future. Also, according to a recent article by Tom's Hardware (a highly intelligent and respected computer website, in case ya didn't know) gaming is horrible on Vista. Absolutely horrible. Some games even suffer from a 100% performance drop, if you can believe it. The article is here: www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/17/gameplay-only-gets-worse-with-vista/Of course, in coming months, the majority of the gaming problems will likely be fixed or at least made better, so you may be able to overlook that for now.

Yeh Im looking forward to build a PC in the next few years. I cant believe this piece of shit Dell with the addition of a 512mb RAM chip and 50 dollar graphic card lasted me about 5 years so far.
