My friend did this and told me about it. Basically, there are three versions (the dvd brand that 360 uses) out there. Toshiba-Samsung, Hitachi LG, and BenQ. The 360 manufactured after November 2006 uses BenQ DVD driver. The ones made before then are either Toshiba-Samsung or Hitachi LG.
Before I explain this I will say that this news may be old but Im only posting it now because It came to the attention to me once my friend got his to work.
So Im going to summarize a bit. So there is basically a program out there that when downloaded on your 360, when used it will flash the DVD firmware, making it able to read any disc. My friend told me about this. And two days later, bought one and flashed it. It seemed very simple. The only bad thing about it is that flashing BenQ dvd firmware is impossible at this point, and hasnt been hacked yet.
Whats so good about this is that the modding is FREE, no modchips needed. It got me excited a bit, yeah. Most of us use torrents here so alot of people cant complain about free games =p.
Oh and it bypasses online as well, just gotta pay membership like everyone else.

yea, this is good, but the problem comes when playing online....yeah the current software used to flash can bypasses it, but once Live updates (which might happen) then your pretty much left without Live. another thing is, you CAN get your Live account perma-banned if you are caught. Sucks.... I would do it but i dont know what drive i have, chances are its BenQ, duno who
